About

My name is Ainslie Hunter and this is my professional home.  It is the place where I provide my personal thoughts and ideas about social media.

I am not just talking about how to set up a blog, facebook or twitter account.  Sure, I will provide you with some tips, and point you in the right direction if you want to learn more.

But what I really want to discuss is the how and why these online technology tools can be so successful.

I want to show you how your online presence, your website and online voice can project your professional vision for your company or business.  Too many websites ‘are all flash and no substance’.   Most are the standard four page site that is more like a business card than a reflection of what it important to them and their business.

But I believe there is a better way.  A way to show the hearts and minds of the business via the web.  You see:

  • I want to read about the business.
  • I want to know some history about the key figures
  • I want to know how the business is reaching out and supporting the wider community.
  • I want to see examples of great work
  • I want to follow exceptional professionals and learn from their ideas
  • I want to be able to repond to what is provided, to connect, to collaborate.

And all those examples, and more, can be provided via blogging and social media.

Background

I have a background in teaching, specifically teaching students with Learning Disabilities.  And like all good teachers I would scour the internet looking for teacher resources of lesson plans.  I started reading blogs by teachers and educators.  I enjoyed their stories.  I enjoyed the content.  I was learning and collaborating with many gifted teachers all over the world.

Blogger Hobby

It was at this time that I also came across Yaro Strarak’s Blog Mastermind Program.  This program really taught me the science and techniques behind blogging.  But, what could I blog about?

In 2010 I started Study Skills Mentor.  It is a blog to help students with school, organisation, homework, assignments and exam revision.  I love this site.  It is my baby (well second really).  It is the place where I try out blogging strategies and social media techniques.  But it is my way to give back to all the students, parents and educators that need help.

Dad and Daughter Team

March 2010 saw my father and I teaming together to create a blog about the sport of cutting horses.  It is a wonderful opportunity to work with dad and create something so different.  We write stories about the sport and promote the people behind the sport.  You can view it at Cutting Horse Link.

Blogging and Social Media has become my ’side-hustle’

At the start on 2010 I applied for a job to be the online voice to an Education Publishing Company.  I didn’t get the job, but it certainly gave me a taste of this new type of profession.  So since then I have hustle;, finding opportunities to write, create and teach others about my experiences.

So here I am.

Think of this blog as my online resume and portfolio.  Take a look around and you will find examples of my work, services I can provide and my thoughts on blogging and social media.  If you have a question, please ask and I will point in you in the right direction.

I believe that online stories connect real people.

Online Stories:  I am not a journalist or a reporter.  Whilst I may use the blog to state my opinion or facts I will also share stories.  You see stories help people understand you more, what you stand for, what you believe.  Stories are more memorable.  Stories are believable.  Stories help show the real you.

Connections:  The web is a better place when sites are created that allow for connections and interactions.  Social media tools allow for connections to occur.  Not without risks; but with plenty of rewards.

Real People:  I am real, the person reading this is real, my twitter buddies are real and so are my facebook friends.  When we forget that the web becomes a cold, aggressive place or a scene from an 80s school movie by John Hughes.  But when connections happen on the web you see real support, growth and appreciation!
